Reimagining Energy Provider Apps

GUIDING CUSTOMERS THROUGH THE ENERGY TRANSITION

The energy sector is undergoing rapid transformation, with the role of energy providers constantly evolving. A major energy company in the Netherlands and Belgium sought our expertise to redesign their apps. The goal was to help customers become more energy-conscious and enable them to make informed decisions about energy-saving and sustainability.

The Challenge

Our task was to redefine the role of energy provider apps in a changing market, empowering customers to take control of their energy consumption, save money, and reduce carbon emissions. The apps needed to provide relevant insights and guidance to support smarter, more sustainable energy choices.

An impression of the product vision & strategy presentation

Vision

The app is one of the key touchpoints for consumers when interacting with their energy provider. Whether it's understanding consumption patterns or avoiding unexpected costs, customers need a straightforward way to manage their energy. For this energy provider, delivering digital solutions that help customers gain better control over their energy use was crucial. Each of the company’s two brands has a unique target audience and identity, requiring different flows, tones of voice, visual designs, and functionalities.

An approach that fits two distinctive brands

Solution

We began by establishing an overarching vision for the app’s role, based on trend analysis, customer feedback, and anticipated developments in the energy market. The core focus was on helping customers manage their energy consumption, save money, and reduce their carbon footprint through personalized insights and practical guidance.

Concept design for the Brand 1

While both brands shared a unified strategy, their app designs needed to reflect their individual identities. One brand offered a trusted, authoritative experience, while the other embraced a bold, innovative approach.

Concept design for the Brand 2

To bring this vision to life, we invested considerable effort in concept sketches and prototypes. By focusing on copy and motion design, we highlighted the distinct behaviors and characteristics of each brand. One app delivers a clear and supportive experience, while the other is dynamic and engaging. This approach ensures that both apps not only embody their respective brand identities but also empower customers to make informed, sustainable energy decisions.
